N453 Adult Health II: Acute Care UTI
Purpose of the Assignment: The purpose of this case study it to integrate knowledge from the humanities and sciences, including nursing research and theory, to plan, provide, and evaluate holistic care provided to a client selected during this clinical rotation.
Student Approach to Assignment
The patient that I chose to complete this study on was a 73-year-old white male admitted to our unit for a complicated UTI. His case was unique because the bacteria causing the infection was antibiotic resistance (ESBL Klebsiella Pneumoniae) and therefor required
hospitalization. For this paper I was able to research in depth the pathophysiology and interpret lab and assessment data to create nursing diagnosis’s and interventions. I chose this patient for my case because of his commodities and complications of the infection. Throughout this assignment I became more comfortable with different nursing interventions and their rationale to improve patient comfort and satisfaction during their hospitalization.
Reason for Inclusion of the Assignment in Portfolio
Inclusion of this assignment in my portfolio exemplifies my ability to analyze data and apply it to my practice when dealing with complex patients. It is a demonstration of the patients we had the opportunity to care for during our clinical rotations on a medical-surgical unit.
