N421 Children of the Family: Case Study
Purpose of the Assignment: To provide the student an opportunity to integrate knowledge from the sciences, developmental theory and physical assessment data to the care of a pediatric patient and family in the acute care setting. The student will utilize critical thinking and independent judgments in presenting a holistic plan of care in a formal oral presentation.
Student Approach to Assignment
I really enjoyed creating this assignment as pediatrics is a field I am very interested in. It gave me the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of different psycho social and family needs of working with the pediatric population. I first studied sickle cell anemia in depth to gain a greater understanding of the disease process that allowed me to
create a unique care plan to fit his individual needs. Then, by presenting this to my nursing faculty and peers, I was able to share my new knowledge and educated them on sickle cell anemia and the best evidence-based practice I was able to implement for my patient.
Reason for Inclusion of the Assignment in the Portfolio
I chose this assignment as my oral presentation because of my passion for pediatrics and I think it allowed me to gain a greater insight into this population. It demonstrates my thinking as I work through the nursing process to provide care for this patient.
